Team TriWest Coordinates Emergency Flight for Critical TRICARE Newborn

PHOENIX (April 21, 2025) — TriWest’s Alaska Operations team recently jumped into action to coordinate the urgent medical flight transport of a critical newborn to Seattle, Wash., for intensive neonatal care.

Complications at birth required that the TRICARE West Region newborn receive care at the nearest Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU). However, NICU care was not available at the military facility where the child was born, or anywhere in the Alaska Operations territory.

Despite unexpected challenges, TriWest’s Alaska Hub team acted quickly to coordinate the newborn’s emergency transport to Seattle Children’s Hospital, the nearest available NICU.

In the words of TriWest President and CEO David J. McIntyre, the Alaska Hub’s success story “… is a clear reflection of our team's readiness, compassion, and willingness to do ‘Whatever it Takes!®’ for our nation's heroes and their families.”
