National PTSD Awareness Day Spotlights Impacts of Trauma, Symptoms

PHOENIX (June 27, 2025) — Described as an “invisible wound,” post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) can be a debilitating mental health condition from exposure to life-threatening events.

PTSD can impact mental, emotional, and physical wellness, with flashbacks, avoidance behaviors, mood changes, and disruptive physical and emotional reactions as common symptoms.

For Veteran and military-connected communities who have higher rates of severe trauma exposure, PTSD can have a profound impact on their lives and their loved ones.

The Department of Veterans Affairs emphasizes that at some point in their life 7 out of every 100 Veterans will have PTSD, according to its National Center for PTSD.

June 27 is National PTSD Awareness Day to recognize the serious mental health condition that can result from a traumatic event. The observance spotlights PTSD and information about its effects, symptoms and treatments.

Please read this new Healthy Homefront® feature for more important information on PTSD and available resources for those who have it.
