PHOENIX (September 17, 2025) — For long-term health and wellness, every Service member and Veteran who uses tobacco and seeks to stop needs to discover their own purpose for quitting.

There are many motivations to quit tobacco use: personal health and fitness, for family or starting a family, and even financial reasons.

Veterans and Service members who frequently remind themselves of their ‘why’ to quit tobacco find it can be a powerful motivator. Experts say it is even more powerful to keep reasons in a place they can be viewed often.

According to the Department of Veterans Affairs (VA), the most reliable way to quit tobacco involves behavioral counseling and cessation medication. Counseling helps make long-term behavioral changes so that tobacco can be gradually eliminated.
