Suicide Prevention Month: Know the Connection with PTSD and How Effective Treatment Saves Lives

PHOENIX (September 10, 2026) – September is National Suicide Prevention Month and TriWest Healthcare Alliance (TriWest) is committed to spotlighting important information that can help save lives in our nation’s military-connected and Veteran populations.

Post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) is a serious mental health condition that can deeply impact these communities. For those affected by PTSD, it can cause difficult mental health challenges and disrupt all aspects of life.

According to Dr. Chris Warner, TriWest Medical Director – Behavioral Health, PTSD is a serious condition brought on by experiencing or witnessing an extremely traumatic event.

Untreated PTSD can lead to a sudden personal crisis and potential suicide, Dr. Warner explains. Without diagnosis, proper treatment, and lasting recovery, PTSD can be an exhausting internal battle that leaves survivors fighting invisible psychological wounds.

It’s important to know that PTSD is treatable and recovery is possible to prevent suicide.

“As we think about Suicide Prevention Month, it is important for us to remember those around us who have endured and survived trauma and to let them know that they do not need to carry its weight alone. Let survivors know that they are not broken. PTSD is treatable, lasting healing is possible, and we should encourage them to seek help,” Dr. Warner explains.
