TRICARE Enrollees: Understand Eligibility and Coverage for TRICARE Prime Remote

PHOENIX (September 5, 2025) — For active duty Service members and their family members living far from a military hospital or clinic, acquiring coverage and access to convenient health care can be a challenge.

The Defense Health Agency (DHA) wants eligible TRICARE beneficiaries living far from a Military Treatment Facility (MTF) or clinic to know TRICARE Prime Remote is likely the right plan for them.

DHA also wants active duty Service members and their family members living or working in remote areas to understand TRICARE Prime is only for beneficiaries in Prime Service Areas (PSAs). These areas are designated as close to MTFs or clinics, while TRICARE Prime Remote extends beyond PSAs.

TRICARE Prime Remote enables active duty Service members and their family members in remote areas to access high-quality care wherever they are, DHA emphasizes.

TRICARE beneficiaries in remote areas should read this recent TRICARE Newsroom article on understanding eligibility and coverage with TRICARE Prime Remote.
