Inspiring Stories: U.S. Air Force Veteran Doesn’t Let Cancer Take Him Down

PHOENIX (November 21, 2025) — Five years into his U.S. Air Force service, Phil Schweizer of San Antonio, Texas, was grounded due to cancerous tumors on his spinal cord.

Since Schweizer’s first cancer diagnosis, he has had to continue fighting several additional terminal diagnoses. Through Schweizer’s access to specialty care and support from the Department of Veterans Affairs Community Care Network, he is proving how determination, perseverance, and staying in the fight can help strengthen body and soul.

As administrator of VA’s Community Care Network Region 4, which includes Texas, TriWest Healthcare Alliance has been inspired by Schweizer’s determination and fight to impact his ongoing health and wellness.
