TriWest Community Providers,
The House and Senate voted overwhelmingly to support additional funding for the Veterans Choice Program. The President signed this legislation on Saturday, August 12, 2017. The legislation provides an additional $2.1 Billion to fund the Choice Program. Claims processing was not impacted although there was a reduction in the overall volume of care referred out to the community under the Choice Program due to a short-term funding issue.
VA has put out guidance to their Veterans Affairs Medical Centers (VAMC) that they can resume making referrals under Choice First (services not available at VAMC) in addition to the referrals they currently were making under Patient-Centered Community Care (PC3), Choice 30 (30 day wait list), and Choice 40 (distance eligible). We anticipate an increased number of referrals to community providers as the VA makes sure Veterans continue to have access to timely quality care. We appreciate your support of these critical VA programs.
