Before receiving activation notification:
- View the Reserve Affair’s Family Readiness Toolkit
- Register family members in DEERS or update information as needed
- Get your Will and other legal documents in order, including your Power of Attorney
- Contact your command or unit family readiness representative to complete your family care plan
- Review your TRICARE options for active duty
coverage and early eligibility benefits
- Review your civilian employer’s health and dental coverage options for you and your family while on active duty
- Determine costs and benefits of your TRICARE and civilian options for health care
After you receive your alert or activation orders:
- Confirm that your family’s DEERS information is current
- Get military ID cards for eligible family members
- Provide copies of your orders to your family
- You and your family may be eligible to receive active duty TRICARE coverage; your TRICARE Reserve Select coverage (if you were enrolled)
will be terminated
- Decide whether to continue or discontinue your civilian employer’s health or dental coverage; if you continue coverage, be
sure to fill out the TRICARE Other Health Insurance (OHI)
