Helpful Steps Before You Mobilize
Before receiving activation notification:
  • View the Reserve Affair’s Family Readiness Toolkit
  • Register family members in DEERS or update information as needed
  • Get your Will and other legal documents in order, including your Power of Attorney
  • Contact your command or unit family readiness representative to complete your family care plan
  • Review your TRICARE options for active duty coverage and early eligibility benefits
  • Review your civilian employer’s health and dental coverage options for you and your family while on active duty
  • Determine costs and benefits of your TRICARE and civilian options for health care
After you receive your alert or activation orders:
  • Confirm that your family’s DEERS information is current
  • Get military ID cards for eligible family members
  • Provide copies of your orders to your family
  • You and your family may be eligible to receive active duty TRICARE coverage; your TRICARE Reserve Select coverage (if you were enrolled) will be terminated
  • Decide whether to continue or discontinue your civilian employer’s health or dental coverage; if you continue coverage, be sure to fill out the TRICARE Other Health Insurance (OHI) Form
  • Review life insurance for your spouse and yourself
