Keep DEERS Updated for TRICARE Benefits
As a TRICARE beneficiary, you must keep your records up-to-date in the Defense Enrollment Eligibility Reporting System (DEERS) in order to receive any TRICARE benefits, including pharmacy benefits.
Military healthcare providers and pharmacies rely on information stored in the DEERS record when processing claims. If your DEERS information is outdated, you may experience difficulties in claims processing and may not receive your prescriptions from a retail pharmacy if the DEERS record does not report you as an eligible beneficiary.
DEERS records must be changed whenever there is a qualifying life event (QLE) for each beneficiary under a sponsor. QLE’s may include any of the following:
- Marriage
- Birth or adoption of a child
- Placement of a child in the legal custody of the member by an order of the court
- Divorce or annulment
- Death of a spouse or family member
- Family member becomes ineligible (e.g., child surpasses eligible age)
Verify your DEERS record is current by:
- Contact the Defense Manpower Data Center Support Office (DSO) at 1-800-538-9552
- Visiting the nearest uniformed services personnel office (ID-card issuing facility)
If information is incorrect, please update your records immediately. Family members may make address changes only at http://www.tricare.osd.mil/deers/default.cfm.
