Participate in TRICARE’s Annual Satisfaction Survey

The 2007 TRICARE Inpatient Satisfaction Survey (TRISS) helps the TRICARE Management Activity (TMA) assess beneficiary satisfaction with their inpatient services for medical, surgical, and childbirth care experiences.

What is the survey?

Conducted annually since 1999 and sponsored by TMA, the survey allows beneficiaries to speak out about the medical care they have received through TRICARE and identify what aspects work well and what needs improvement.

The survey asks beneficiaries to rate the different types of care and services received, including interactions with hospital staff and the physical environment of hospitals.  Voluntary participation in the survey takes about 20 minutes by mail and seven minutes by phone. Survey responses are confidential.

If selected to participate, what will I be asked to do?

Between December 2006 and March 2007, surveys will be mailed to approximately 45,000 eligible beneficiaries who had a recent hospital stay either at a Military Treatment Facility (MTF) or a civilian health care facility.  Participants have the choice of completing a confidential mail questionnaire or using the Web-based response option.

Next, a sample of approximately 1,500 beneficiaries who had a hospital stay within the previous three months will be asked to participate in a phone survey.

Not everyone that is eligible will receive a survey, as beneficiaries asked to participate are randomly selected from a group of eligible military beneficiaries who had a stay at a military or civilian hospital within the last three months. These beneficiaries were admitted to the hospital and remained at least one night for medical, surgical or childbirth diagnoses.

Survey results should be available at www.tricare.mil Spring 2007.
