Proper Preparation Can Keep Maternity Costs in Check

Pregnancy can be an exciting time, and it’s only natural that some expectant mothers opt to move closer to family when their sponsors are deployed. However, if you are currently enrolled in TRICARE Prime Remote for Active Duty Family Members (TPRADFM), your TRICARE benefits will change once you move.

If your family decides to move while your sponsor is deployed, you will not be able to remain enrolled in TRICARE Prime Remote for Active Duty Family Members (TPRADFM), even if you move to a different TRICARE Prime Remote (TPR)-designated ZIP code area. However, you will remain eligible for TRICARE Extra or TRICARE Standard. If you move to a TRICARE Prime service area (within approximately 40 miles of an MTF), you may enroll in TRICARE Prime.

A good rule of thumb is to check with the TRICARE Service Center (TSC) in your new city to find out which program is available. Visit  http://www.tricare.mil/tricareservicecenters/default.cfm for a list of TSCs. In addition, you may speak with beneficiary service representatives (BSERs) to help determine which option may be best for you and your family.

Beneficiaries may dial TriWest Healthcare Alliance toll-free at 1-888-TRIWEST (1-888-874-9378) for more information.
