Treatment Options for Depression
Psychotherapy, also known as "talk therapy," is more than talking about problems, it's about finding solutions. A good therapist will help individuals develop skills for coping with overwhelming feelings and symptoms, and help change behaviors that may be contributing to symptoms. More
Behavior Therapy
Involves helping patients increase the frequency and quality of pleasant activities.
Cognitive Therapy
Involves helping patients learn to think more adaptively and thereby experience improvements in affect, mood, and behavior.
Interpersonal Therapy
This style of therapy aims to resolve interpersonal issues, conflicts or transition of roles that are related to the onset and continuation of depression. Depression does not exclusively arise from interpersonal problems; however these problems occur within an interpersonal context.
Drug Therapy for Depression
One antidepressant medication does not necessarily work for all individuals. A particular class of antidepressant may be more effective over another, therefore testing a couple of different medications before finding the right drug therapy isn't unusual.
