Deployment and Psychopathology
Service members and their families can experience a number of reactions during the cycle of deployment. Most reactions to deployment are normal (e.g., stress or sadness) and therefore are not considered "disordered". However, individuals sometimes develop one of these common health issues during a stressful deployment: depression, addiction, or PTSD. Search the topics listed under emotional well-being to find available resources for health care professionals.

Post-Deployment Health Reassessment (PDHRA) The PDHRA extends the range of resources for service members who are deploying. The PDHRA provides education, screening, assessment and access to health care once a service member has returned from deployment. The goal of reassessment is to minimize any negative impact of deployment on a service member’s health. Returning service members in all branches of military service are required to participate in the PDHRA between 90 and 180 days after deployment. |
