Getting Motivated to SeekStress is a normal part of everyday life and cannot be completely eliminated. The critical issue with stress is not avoiding it, but learning how to deal with it effectively. People who do not effectively cope with stress may develop psychiatric disorders; for example, depression, substance use disorders, or anxiety. If your provider determines that stress management training is essential to the successful management of a psychiatric disorder, the training is available through many therapists and counselors and is a covered TRICARE benefit. Stress management training is not a covered TRICARE benefit, if there is no diagnosed psychiatric disorder. TRICARE policy for reimbursement requires that services must be medically necessary for a diagnosed psychological disorder. The disorder must be one referenced in the Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders (DSM-IV) and must be of a severity not only to cause the patient distress but also to interfere with the patient's usual activities. |
