Only Nine Days Remain in the HIPAA 5010 Deadline!
6/21/2012
The Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) is ending its enforcement discretion period for HIPAA 5010 standards on June 30, 2012. All providers must be fully compliant with the new transaction standards by then or be subject to enforcement action under the existing HIPAA transaction and code set enforcement process.
Providers are strongly encouraged to take the necessary steps to complete the transition to Version 5010 as soon as possible to avoid disruption of reimbursement.
With less than two weeks remaining, you should be finished with your upgrade to Version 5010. Over the past months, steady progress toward compliance has been made by the industry as health plans, clearinghouses, providers, and software vendors have demonstrated broad collaboration to resolve some of the technical challenges affecting implementation.
Entities still experiencing issues regarding use of the Version 5010 should refer to their respective vendor, clearinghouse, payer's website or provider service department for assistance.
As June 30 draws near, TriWest Healthcare Alliance (TriWest) and its claims processor, Wisconsin Physicians Service Insurance Corp. (WPS) remind you that the Version 5010 transaction standards have different requirements than those of Version 4010 and 4010A.
TriWest has a dedicated web page for HIPAA 5010 at TriWest.com/Provider>EDI/ERA/EFT.
You may contact the WPS EDI team at 1-800-782-2680, Option #2, for additional information regarding 5010 conversion.
