Select OTC Meds Zero Copay
3/4/2010
The TRICARE Over-The-Counter (OTC) medication demonstration began at TRICARE retail pharmacies in October 2007. It allowed TRICARE beneficiaries to substitute over-the-counter versions for selected prescription drugs. Due to the savings with OTC medications and the positive feedback, TRICARE has continued this program with a zero copay.
In order for a TRICARE beneficiary to receive covered OTC medications with no out-of-pocket cost, the provider will need to write the beneficiary a prescription specifically for the OTC drug, which the beneficiary will then submit to any TRICARE retail network pharmacy or the TRICARE mail-order pharmacy.
The following OTC medications are available through this program:
- Cetirizine
- Loratadine rapid
- Loratadine tablets
- Prilosec OTC
- Omeprazole (generic of Prilosec OTC)
