Children's Immunizations
The children immunization
schedule below is a general guideline based on recommendations from the
Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. Some
vaccinations may only be recommended for children in high-risk groups. Consult
with your child’s doctor to establish vaccine schedule specifically for your
child and any needed catch-up vaccines.
TRICARE covers
age-appropriate doses of vaccines, as recommended by the
Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.
- Diphtheria, Tetanus, Acellular Pertussis (DTaP)
Protects against diphtheria, tetanus and whooping cough
- Hepatitis A
Protects against the Hepatitis A virus which causes an inflammation of the liver
- Hepatitis B
Protects against the Hepatitis B virus which causes chronic inflammation of the
liver and other life-long complications
- H. Influenza type B (Hib)
Protects against meningitis, pneumonia, sepsis, epiglotittis (a severe throat infection),
skin infections, and arthritis which can cause infections of the blood, brain, joints
or lungs
- Measles, Mumps, Rubella (MMR)
Protects against measles mumps and German measles (rubella)
- Pneumoccocal
Protects against pneumonia which can cause certain infections of the blood, brain,
joints, inner ears or lungs
- Polio
Protects against the spread of the poliovirus
- Varicella
Protects against chickenpox
- HPV
For females only, the HPV vaccine helps protect against human papillomavirus which
can lead to cervical cancer
- Rotavirus
Protects against rotavirus which can cause diarrhea and vomiting
- Influenza
Protects against the transmission of the flu and other complications
