Child Asthma: When to Seek Immediate Care
When your
child experiences a serious asthma flare-up, you should seek immediate care,
preferably at an emergency room.
During
serious flare-ups, your child will have difficulty breathing, even when they
are sitting or lying down. Their symptoms will continue to worsen even after
you use medication to treat their asthma symptoms. Your child's peak flow
readings may be in the red zone and less than 50 percent of their personal
best. If your child feels disoriented or exhausted, your child may be
experiencing a life-threatening attack. Seek immediate care right away,
preferably at an emergency room.
