Adult Asthma: When to Seek Immediate Care
When you
experience a serious asthma flare-up, you should seek immediate care,
preferably at an emergency room.
During
serious flare-ups, you will find it difficult to breathe, even when you're
sitting or lying down. Your symptoms will continue to worsen even after you use
medication to treat your asthma symptoms. Your peak flow readings may be in the
red zone and less than 50 percent of your personal best. If you feel
disoriented or exhausted, you may be experiencing a life-threatening attack.
Seek immediate care right away, preferably at an emergency room.
