Heart Disease: Symptoms
Living with heart failure
requires that you pay close attention to every change in your symptoms. Notify
your doctor immediately if you notice a new symptom or a current symptom
getting worse. Some changes to watch out for:
- Sudden weight gain: Your
doctor may tell you to report if you gain a certain amount of weight in a
short amount of time. If you find that you have gained three pounds in one
day or five pounds over one week, you should report that to your doctor.
- Shortness of breath that
is not related to any exercise or other exertion
- Increased swelling in
your legs or ankles
- Pain or swelling in your
abdomen
- Sleeping trouble
- Frequent dry or hacking
cough
- Loss of appetite
- Constantly feeling tired
Your doctor will advise
you if your symptoms require a change in medication or dosages. You should not
make any adjustments to your medications without your doctor's approval.
