TRICARE Phone Service Assists with Behavioral Health Care Appointments
As part of TRICARE's nation-wide Behavioral Health Locator and Appointment Assistance Service, TriWest has a toll-free telephone number (1-866-651-4970) for beneficiaries in the 21-state West Region to use if they need assistance making a behavioral health care appointment. TriWest will help TRICARE Prime beneficiaries find a local provider and help coordinate an appointment.Behavioral health appointment assistance is only available through each region's dedicated toll-free phone number and is not available at TRICARE Service Centers. The phone line is available from 8 a.m. until 6 p.m. local time.
Beneficiaries may make their own behavioral health care appointments to take advantage of the TRICARE behavioral health benefits. The appointment assistance line is offered as a courtesy to eligible TRICARE Prime and Prime Remote beneficiaries living in, or visiting, the U.S. (ADSM, ADFM, TPRADFM, TOPS).
Under TRICARE, Active duty family members can receive up to eight outpatient behavioral health care visits without prior authorization (per fiscal year, Oct.1 to Sept. 30). Active duty Service members must have a referral from their primary care manager before making behavioral health appointments.
The appointment assistance line will not offer treatment, counseling or advice. TriWest's Behavioral Health Crisis Line (1-866-284-3743)is staffed with specially trained clinicians 24 hours a day, seven days a week to assist beneficiaries with non-emergency behavioral health issues.
