Beneficiary Web Enrollment (BWE) FAQ’s
(provided/Approved by TMA)

  1. How long should I wait to see a doctor after enrolling online?
Enrollment can take up to 6 calendar days for approval. You should check the Beneficiary Web Enrollment site to check your enrollment status. If you seek medical care before you receive enrollment confirmation, your claim may process as Standard. In this case, you may have to submit the claim for reprocessing as Prime once your enrollment is complete.
  2. How will I have proof of enrollment?
You should print a copy of the enrollment confirmation from the Web site until your Prime enrollment card(s) arrive in the mail.
  3. When can my children start taking care of their own health care needs?
Dependents 18 or older may use the Beneficiary Web Enrollment to manage their own contact information and enrollment status. These dependents can log on to the Web site with his/her individual Family Member Account Personal Identification Number.
  4. How do I get a Family Member Account? (only available to active duty family members at this time)
To get a Family Member Account, the sponsor should log on to https://www.dmdc.osd.mil/appj/dsaccess/ using his/her CAC card or DFAS PIN. The sponsor can then set-up individual accounts for each member of the household over the age of 18. The Family Member Account assigns a PIN to each eligible family member that can be used to log on to the BWE site.
  5. Can I make an enrollment payment online?
Retired TRICARE Prime beneficiaries can make only the initial enrollment payment online when enrolling in Prime at the Beneficiary Web Enrollment site. Visa, MasterCard, Discover and American Express are accepted.
  6. How do I get help if I have technical problems with the Beneficiary Web site?
Call the Defense Manpower Data Support Center at 1-800-477-8227 for technical assistance.
  7. Can I still enroll by mail or at the TRICARE Service Center?
Yes. BWE just offers another convenient option for enrollment. You can print your completed form off the Beneficiary Web Enrollment site (at any time) instead of submitting it. After filling out the form and signing it, simply mail it to your regional contractor with your initial payment.
  8. Can my son or daughter, who is away at college, enroll in TRICARE Prime using the Beneficiary Web Enrollment?
Yes. Your son or daughter can log on to the site with a Family Member Account PIN and enroll in TRICARE Prime. However, if you are a retiree, you are responsible for the entire family payment, even if your son or daughter is in a different region.
  9. Can I cancel an enrollment or make an enrollment change on the web site while it is still pending?
Yes. Enrollments are pending until approved. You may make a change or cancel your enrollment within 48 hours of your initial entry as long as it is still in pending status.
  10. How do I choose a Primary Care Manager (PCM)?
When you enter your 5 digit zip code in BWE, you can view the available PCM’s in your area. You should choose a PCM within the 30-minute drive time access standard. Understand that when using the Beneficiary Web Enrollment you waive your right to a PCM within 30 minutes of your home since the Beneficiary Web Enrollment tool cannot determine the drive time from your home to a PCM. TRICARE applies a blanket waiver to each application completed through Beneficiary Web Enrollment if the PCM you choose is more than 30 minutes from your home.
  11. Why can’t I enroll in TRICARE Standard or Extra with Beneficiary Web Enrollment?
It is not necessary to enroll in TRICARE Standard or Extra, therefore, enrollment is only available for TRICARE Prime and Prime Remote.
  12. I have TRICARE Standard. How can I use the Beneficiary Web enrollment site?
TRICARE Standard and Extra beneficiaries can use the site to enroll in Prime if they would like to change their plan if they live in or move to an area where Prime is available. You can also use the site to change personal information that is linked to the DEERS Web site. This changes the information in both the DEERS and Beneficiary Web Enrollment site at the same time.
