Make the Connection
Connect from home or anywhere with Web-based videoconferencing capabilities for private, confidential, non-reportable, non-medical professional
assistance services 24/7/365.
The Department of Defense established the TRICARE Assistance Program (TRIAP) as a demonstration project. TRIAP allows easier access to
short-term assistance services as part of the TRICARE benefit.
Eligible beneficiaries can connect with a trained Assistance Counselor (licensed master’s or Ph.D.-level counselor)
by Web-based videoconference. No authorizations or referrals are required and beneficiaries can use the program as often as needed.
There is no cost for using TRIAP services.
What’s Covered
Assistance Counselors are available for confidential, private discussions about what’s going on in your life. This can include:
- Stress management (work, family, personal)
- Family difficulties and pressures
- Family separations/deployments
- Relationships and marital issues
- Parent/child communication
- Self-esteem
TRIAP services cover short-term, non-medical issues. If an Assistance Counselor determines you would benefit from more comprehensive
care, they can explain your options and help you access that care as part of your TRICARE benefit.
Getting Started
Contact the TriWest Behavioral Health Contact Center (1-888-TRIWEST
(874-9378)) to begin using TRIAP services. When a TRIAP appointment is scheduled, you will need to confirm that you have the proper videoconference hardware and have established a Skype account (TriWest utilizes the Skype application for TRIAP services in the TRICARE
West Region). You will need to supply your Skype username to the Contact Center since the Assistance Counselor will contact you through
Skype to begin your appointment.
If you are not eligible for TRIAP, you may want to consider using behavioral health services provided by Military OneSource. Visit http://www.militaryonesource.com/
or call 1-800-342-9647 for more information.
